Twitter Automation — Lead Discovery for Hiring & Marketing
Overview
Free, keyword and hashtag-driven lead discovery instead of paying for subscription outreach tools.
The problem
Both hiring and marketing needed a way to find relevant people on Twitter/X and reach out to them at scale, things like sourcing candidates or finding inbound-ready leads. Paid tools for this kind of lead generation and bulk outreach existed, but the subscription costs added up, so I took on building an in-house alternative.
What I built
A Twitter automation dashboard using an open-source scraping toolkit to search tweets by keyword or by trending hashtag, unrestricted by the usual platform search limits. Users enter keywords or hashtags relevant to what they're looking for (for hiring, something like "100 days of code" to surface active developers, or a trending hashtag to catch what's currently active), and the system fetches matching tweets, ranks the top 10 by likes and comments, and stores what it's already seen so the same tweets aren't re-fetched on future runs. From there, users can either post a comment manually or have one generated automatically; for hiring use cases, the generated comment includes a direct application link so candidates can apply straight from the comment thread. The same keyword/hashtag-and-comment flow supports marketing use cases for inbound and outbound growth.
Impact
Helped surface and hire candidates who were actively building and genuinely skilled, developers with real, visible work rather than just a resume, while also generating quality inbound leads for marketing. All of this without paying for a subscription-based outreach tool.
